2016 ASU Ballroom Beginners’ Competition

If you have ever thought about competing, but aren’t sure what it would entail? Want to go to Las Vegas, but don’t want to go completely unprepared?

Devil DanceSport has an answer for you!

Devil DanceSport and ASU School of Film, Dance and Theatre faculty are offering the Third Annual ASU Ballroom Beginners’ Competition, an event to get all of you familiarized with the way ballroom dance competitions are run.

The ASU Ballroom Beginners’ Competition will be held in the Arizona Ballroom of the Memorial Union from 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm, on Saturday, April 2, 2016. The competition will include the annual Devil DanceSport Introduction to Competition Workshop, as well as single-dance heats in Newcomer and Bronze for all dances across the main four dancesport styles (American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Standard, and International Latin), as well as Social Latin, West Coast Swing, and Country/Western. We will also offer “Silver and higher” Multi-Dance events/showcases in each of the four ballroom and Latin dance styles.

Competitors may register for up to two consecutive levels of dancing (e.g. Newcomer and Bronze, or Bronze and Silver+, but not Newcomer and Silver+).

Newcomer competitors may also register for an American Style Multi-Dance event where the top three couples get discounts towards Las Vegas travel!

There is no cost to attend the Beginners’ Competition, so come on down! Just fill out our registration packet before Thursday, March 26, 2015.

Note for Las Vegas Competitors
If you signed up to compete in Newcomer or Bronze at the UNLV Desert Challenge competition in Las Vegas, we will require you to attend the Beginners’ Competition. (You don’t want to have the deer-in-the-headlights look when going against students from other schools, and we don’t want that either.) We will ask you to register for at least the same heats and level you signed up for in your UNLV entry form. You may sign up for more heats if you want.
