DDS summer practices starting next week

Big news everyone! If you are still in town, and are interested in reviewing and expanding the material we covered in classes last semester, Devil DanceSport has secured practice and review space for us. Starting May 29, the DDS practices will be every Thursday from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Paragon Dance Center in Tempe. The practices will cover patterns, technique, and new concepts adequate for all levels of dancers. The sessions will cover and expand on material from the Latin/Swing/Ballroom and the Latin/Salsa courses. If you are a student or DDS member, bring your student ID to get in for free! Community members without student ID pay $5 at the door.

DDS Competition 101

Have you ever wanted to compete but not sure what it would entail? Are you interested in going to Las Vegas but don't want to go completely unprepared? Don't worry, we can help with that! Devil DanceSport is offering DDS Competition 101, a beginner's competition to get all of you familiarized with the way ballroom dance competitions are run. DDS Competition 101 will be held in the Maroon Gym of the Sun Devil Fitness Center, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, on Saturday, March 29, 2014. We will offer heats in Newcomer and Bronze for all dances across the main four dancesport styles (American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Standard, and International Latin). If you signed up to attend the Desert Challenge competition at UNLV, you are automatically signed up for DDS Competition 101 in the same events and level you registered for UNLV. This is to make sure that when you step out onto their floor, you don't have a deer-in-the-headlights look. There is no cost to attend our competition training, so come on down! Just fill out our registration packet before Tuesday, March 25, 2014.

DDS goes to Las Vegas, 2014 edition

dds-vegas-14 It's that time of the year again... it's time to go to Las Vegas! The Desert Challenge Intercollegiate Dancesport Championships will be held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on April 25–26. Devil DanceSport's mission is to dominate the UNLV competition. If you accept this mission, Devil DanceSport will cover hotel, transportation, and registration for you! All you have to do is to fill out the registration packet (linked below). DDS members will only need to pay $125 for two nights of hotel, a spot on the bus, as well as your Desert Challenge entry fee. For this competition, we will use our point-based travel subsidy system. We will take the point total from the spring semester to compute your travel subsidy. We have pre-calculated subsidies for all of you, and you can check how much you would pay at our travel subsidies page. In order to travel with the team or claim any travel subsidies, you must be cleared as a Devil DanceSport member before Tuesday, March 25; for more information about how to become a member, check out our membership page. If you want to take advantage of this offer, you must return your Vegas packets to a DDS officer by Thursday, March 27, 2014.
