ASU DevilDancesport

FAQ

How was Devil DanceSport created?

Devil DanceSport was founded in 2004 by a select group of ballroom
students. Our esteemed instructor, Larry Caves, also teaches many
ballroom dancing classes on the Tempe campus of ASU. DDS is focused on the joys of social dancing and excelling in competitive dancing.

I just started my studies at ASU, can I join?

Of course! All ASU students, professionals and faculty are eligible
to become Devil DanceSport members. All you need to do is go to the
Student Recreation Center, sign up and pay the SORC fees ($25/semester) at the front desk of the SRC. Then come to practice!

When and where do you practice?

As of the Fall semester of 2008, our practice schedule is Monday and
Wednesdays from 8-10PM and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2PM in
Small Gym C.

How is practice conducted?

Saturday is our big practice, which means that many of our senior club
members will also be practicing during that time and will be available
for you to ask questions of, observe or to possibly teach a class.
All of the other days are considered independent practice. Please be
courteous with music and space as you will be sharing with other club
members.

Do I need a partner to come to practice or class?

No, of course not. In fact, we encourage everyone without a
partner to come to practices. People normally meet their future
partners in practice sessions or workshops. This also affords the
chance to dance with many different people, which at the same time
helps you develop as a dancer.

What are Devil DanceSport club activities?

Other than weekly practices, monthly workshops and social dancing as a
club, every semester DDS hosts one fund-raising dance, and travels to
at least one national collegiate competition. Devil DanceSport also
has a formation team. For more information, email our formation team
captain, Amberley Kline at Amberley.Kline@asu.edu.
For more information on our fund-raising dances, please contact our event coordinator, Megan Gjersvig at Megan.Gjersvig@asu.edu.

What are the short-term goals of our club?

To help ballroom students achieve their dancing goals and continually
introduce new materials, opportunities and experiences.

What are the long-term goals of our club?

We are planning on hosting our own collegiate competition in December
of 2009. The Devil DanceSport Invitational.
